Eagle Mine Recognized as an Essential Business under Michigan’s Stay at Home Order

The health and safety of our employees, their families, and local communities is our top priority. We remain committed to this value as we closely monitor and take preventative measures to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

On March 23, the State of Michigan issued an Executive Order for all non-essential or non-critical businesses to close until April 13. Eagle Mine has been deemed a critical infrastructure business by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as metals manufacturing and processing are determined to be the essential core of manufacturing in the United States. This means our operation will remain open during the Executive Order to ensure that vital resources remain available.

Since early March, Eagle Mine has proactively taken significant measures in ensuring the safety of our employees and those who visit our sites, and recently increased those measures with the announcement of Michigan’s Executive Order.

We have implemented several measures including, but not limited to:

  • Travel restrictions, surveillance, monitoring, and response plans to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure and outbreak.

  • Employees and contractors who have had incidental contact or exposure to someone diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus, as well as those who have traveled internationally or domestically, have been instructed to stay at home for 14-days regardless of whether they are showing symptoms.

  • One-third of our workforce is working from home to reduce interactions through commuting or close contact with co-workers.

  • Enhanced screening process at site entry points.

  • New procedures and occupancy limits for areas where large groups of employees gather, such as work areas, cafeterias, and changing rooms.

  • Introduced measures to ensure social distancing, including modifying transportation, line-out meetings, and shift change routines.

  • Regularly closing high traffic areas for disinfection.

  • Providing our employees with additional personal protective equipment and supplies as needed.

  • Limiting suppliers, vendors, and visitors to our sites to only those deemed business critical.

  • Increased COVID-19 hygiene and preventative measures awareness campaigns with our employees and contractors.

  • Temporarily closing our Information Center in downtown Marquette while continuing to provide services virtually.

Eagle Mine has a continued responsibility to our employees and community to do our best to help stop the spread of COVID-19 while we remain open. We continue to seek best practices from local and global governments and health authorities, and are confident these measures will ensure the health and safety of our employees and the community.
